Scott Ballard and his Dad attended a mandatory Hunter Education course.
Anyone that hunts needs to attend this course.
Several of Troop 83 Scouts plan to attend this valuable and well taught 2 day class.
Our friends Mr. Link Grass and Mr. Mike Stallings did a wonderful job teaching Scott and others hunting ethics, laws, firearm safety, tree stand safety, and other valuable information.

Scott Ballard attended a Military Briefing at the Speedway Club June 10th.
He represented Troop 83, and was the only Boy Scout at the briefing.
Scott met  many military heroes, and was warmly accepted as another 'Man in Uniform'.
Among the men he met were Air Force Special Ops, Navy Seals, Army Airborne Paratroopers, and Military Top Brass.
They all stressed the weight that Eagle Scout meant to college, military, and job careers.
One Army Drill Sergeant said that he could tell which new recruits had Scouting backgrounds.
Troop 83 really had a great 2008 Summer Camp at CBS.
Great food, fun, fellowship, and achievements filled our week.
Tanner, Andrew, and Scott were standouts at C.O.P.E. while Austin, Geoffrey, and AJ
excelled at Merit Badges.
Tanner conquered the Mile Swim!!!!! Go Big T!
Our catapult crew placed 2nd! WOW!
(Of course the boys never told anyone it doubled as a bobcat trap also:)
We had so many compliments on our guys from camp staff and other troop leaders!
Monday night we had a GREAT fish fry thanks to SM Jerry, and Wednesday night was steak night.
SM Mike was there to help guide and care for our guys all week long. Everyone truly appreciated his skills and fellowship,
and the time he spent with us all.
Many thanks to SM David for his hard work putting it all together.
Our Scouts are so fortunate to have the great parents, and adult leaders that offer their time, money, and talents to
assure that they have the best Scouting experience.
They will look back later on in life, and truly appreciate the wonderful experience our parents and leaders have provided
for them. Then they will follow in our footsteps and do the same for their children and others.
'Look up front who do you see...it's the mighty ...mighty...83!'

Our Spring 2008 Camporee was a blast!
Good food, fellowship, music, and Scout skills training were GREAT!
Our guys were so much fun to be around that we wish we could have stayed longer.
We made many new friends, and our pioneering project was AWESOME!
We can’t thank SM David enough for all his hard work to make this happen
for us. Thanks to ALL our adult leaders: SM Jerry, Gerald, SM 'potane' Billy B.
'Look up front who do you see: It’s the mighty, mighty 83!

The Scouts of Troop 83 had the pleasure of a visit by the Pack 83 Cubs recently. Getting to know these wonderful Cubs, and sharing the Scout Skills of knots and lashings made for a memorable and productive Troop meeting. 83`s Cub and Scout adult leaders and parents, had a neat time getting to know each other, and swapping some really cool stories. Troop 83 is looking forward to many fun times ahead with the swell Cubs and leadership of Pack 83.

Lots of great things are happening here at Troop 83.
Three new Life Scouts! Congratulations Austin, Tanner, and Scott!
This is BIG news because a majority of New Scouts never attain the Life rank.

We welcome A J as our newest Scout. A J is a Life Scout also, and is eagerly working with us to attain the rank of Eagle. A J is a wonderful Scout, and we all truly enjoy the skills and leadership he brings to Troop 83.
All of the Scouts are working steadily through rank and merit badges.

We have had some very fun and productive outings lately:
Our cabin camp to Grandfather Mountain, ski trips, and recently Trapshooting and Sporting clays!
Congratulations to: Andrew, Austin, Scott, and Tanner on qualifying for Shotgun Shooting Merit badge. Kudos to Geoffrey for his passing introduction to Shotgun and Rifle Shooting.
He will represent Troop 83 well at the Camp Bud Schiele ranges soon.
Mr. Buck our rangemaster was VERY complimentary of our Scouts!
Thank you Buck, George, Jason, and all our other swell friends that helped us so much at Shooter’s Sporting Club 2/2/2008!
Thanks again to all our parents, and adult leaders that support these wonderful young men of Troop 83 along their trail to Eagle Scout!

Mt Break! After several weeks of hard work on Rank and Merit Badge requirements, the Scouts of Troop 83 took a much needed break for fun in the N.C. mountains.
A clear sky and a zillion stars greeted us on the first night, followed by cold rain and snow on the second night. Saturday involved hiking around the mountains, and completing item 7 of the Communications Merit Badge.
Each scout was charged with planning and preparing a meal, while teamwork did the prep and clean up.
The food was fantastic, and we had another patented Troop 83 sing along with Scott and Geoffrey's Dads providing the guitar licks.
Thanks SM David for setting up everything, and your tireless work. Thanks SM Ken for all that you do. Thank you SM Jerry for all the hard work, fun, and mentoring you bring to Troop 83. Thanks Doug C. for your sincere dedication.

The Scouts of Troop 83 thank ALL of our adult leaders, parents, and friends that give their time so generously, to help us along the Scouting Trail as we become men.
