About Troop 83

Boy Scout Troop 83 is sponsored by Hill`s Chapel United Methodist Church.

It is in the Heartland District of the Piedmont Council. It is a growing troop with 2 patrols at this writing with one comprised of scouts First Class and under, and one with scouts above the rank of First Class.

Assistant Scoutmasters are assigned to each patrol as advisors. The Troop is governed by the Troop Committee that is composed of interested adults who oversee the operation and safety of the troop.

The real running of the troop is by the youth leaders with adult guidance. A Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader run each patrol. Each of these Scouts must be trained, and is responsible for running many of the troop functions. The Senior Patrol Leader leads the troop with the guidance of the Scoutmasters. Scouts in leadership positions meet in the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) once a month to plan troop meetings and events.

Troop 83 provides young men with positive, enriching, wholesome activities, and opportunities for outdoor adventure and leadership. The scouts plan at least 10 campouts per year and a weeklong summer camp. Our Scouts participate in many community service projects throughout the year.

Troop 83 invites any young man interested in becoming a Boy Scout to attend our meetings.
