How a Scout EARNS
a Merit Badge

- A Scout selects his merit badge from the Scout Handbook, merit
badge pamphlet from the troop or public library, or from
www.meritbadge.com
- A Scout indicates his interest in earning the merit badge to his
Scoutmaster who gives him:
a. An interview to determine interest, enthusiasm, and
preparedness.b. A signed application for the
merit badge.
c. The name and phone number of a district
approved MBC.
d. Encourages the Scout to wear proper
uniform, and be on time for his meeting with the MBC.
- A Scout MUST have a ``buddy`` with him during the meeting with
the MBC. A ``buddy`` could be another Scout working on the MB, a
parent, guardian, brother, sister, or relative.
- The Scout calls the MBC and makes an appointment.
- The Scout brings: Merit badge pamphlet, signed MB application by
the Scoutmaster, any projects that he may have started, and any
other indication of preparedness.
- On the first interview with the MBC and Scout, they will decide
on projects, short and long- term goals with completions in mind,
and dates, times, places for further interviews.
- Utmost respect and appreciation for their time WILL be conveyed
to the MBC by the Scouts from Troop 83.
